How people find your website.

People arrive at your website through many different routes. Search, ads, social, email, referrals, direct, or a QR code someone saved in a chat.

Each route passes through its own systems. Google, Meta, TikTok and others each record what happens in their environment. Then a thin layer of source information (a referrer, a UTM label, a click ID) tries to survive the journey to your website.

GA4 records the website side. It can see where a visit came from, what happened on the site, and whether certain events are configured to be recorded. But GA4 only sees what reaches it.

No single system sees the whole journey. The work is understanding how the records connect.

The full route.

Diagram showing how people find a website: from people and intent through Google, Meta, TikTok and other sources, through source information (referrer, UTM, click ID), to the website, GA4 measurement, and events flowing back to Google, Meta and TikTok as conversion signals.
From intent, through the platforms, through the source information, into GA4, and back out as conversion signals.

Once a visit lands, GA4 shows it through six different reports. Each one answers a different question and none tells the whole story. One visit. Many reports. walks through what each report is actually showing.
