One visit. Many reports.

People often open GA4, click through a few reports and wonder which one is the "right" one.

All of them are.

Each report looks at the same visit from a different perspective and answers a different question. None of them tells the whole story on its own.

One visit.

Imagine someone searching for your business on Google.

They visit your website, browse a few pages, submit your contact form and leave.

That single visit shows up in six different reports in GA4. Each one answers a different question.

GA4 Reporting Framework: one visit shown through six reports — Acquisition, Geography, Pages and Screens, Events, Conversions and Audience Overview. Each report is accurate and incomplete; the value comes from connecting them.
One visit. Six reports. Every report is accurate. Every report is incomplete.

Acquisition. Where they came from.

Which channel, source and campaign brought the visit to the website. Search, social, email, referral, direct, or an ad.

This is where you see which routes are actually delivering traffic.

Geography. Where they were.

The country, region and city GA4 associates with the visit.

Useful for a local business asking whether the traffic is even in the right place.

Pages and screens. What they looked at.

Which pages were viewed, in what order, and how long each one held attention.

This is where you see whether the content did its job once the visit arrived.

Events. What they did.

Clicks, scrolls, form interactions, video plays. Anything configured to be recorded as a signal of behaviour.

This is where you see what actually happened on the page, not just that it was seen.

Conversions. What mattered.

The events you've marked as meaningful. A form submitted. A call started. A booking made.

This is where you see whether the visit paid off.

Audience overview. Who they were.

Demographics, interests and devices, at the level of aggregate patterns.

This helps you understand who you are actually attracting, not just who you think you are.

Each report is accurate. Each report is incomplete.

Accurate. And incomplete.

The acquisition report cannot tell you what someone did on the page. The pages report cannot tell you where they came from. The conversions report cannot tell you where they first heard about your business.

Each report answers a different question.

The value comes from connecting them.

Connect the records.

Understanding your business rarely comes from looking at one report in isolation. It comes from asking better questions and connecting the evidence across reports, platforms and the wider customer journey.

Google Analytics records what happened.

The work is understanding what it means.
